Aubrey Allen Wins England's Best Burger 2012

Award winning burger in a bunWith over 100 entries, it was the toughest EBLEX Burger Challenge competition to date but after two rigorous rounds of judging, we have been awarded the title of ‘England’s Best Burger 2012’ for our ‘Coarse Cut Burger’.

It was a closely fought competition from the outset with many outstanding entries from butchers, caterers and manufactures into the two categories: ‘Independent Butcher or Caterer’ and ‘Manufacturer’.

All burgers were judged in the first round of the competition and Gold, Silver and Bronze awards were given to those that achieved the highest scores. All Gold award winning burgers automatically went through to the final, when a ‘Champion’ burger in each category was determined.

We came top in the Manufacturer category winning the ‘Champion’ award for their ‘Coarse Cut Burger’, while The Fence Gate Inn – a brasserie and pub based near Burnley in Lancashire – won the Independent category with their ‘Bowland Steak Burger’.

Made with quality cuts of beef from suckler herds produced to EBLEX’s Quality Standard Mark Scheme specification, and finished to our exacting standards, the ‘Coarse Cut Burger’ can now officially claim to be the best in England!

Competition organiser EBLEX presented us with our trophy at the prestigious Meat Management Awards in London on Thursday 24 May.

Simon Smith, sales manager for Aubrey Allen, said: “We are absolutely delighted! As a relatively small family-owned business, we work very hard to produce the best products for our customers, so it is wonderful to be recognised for our commitment to quality.

We’ve only been producing the Coarse Cut Burger for a year. We wanted to perfect the recipe, which has no added preservatives and only requires a little seasoning prior to cooking, before taking it to market. We did a lot of research and made little tweaks along the way, only using the best quality beef cuts to ensure the consistency and flavour of each burger.

We make a fresh batch of burgers every day which are supplied into a number of catering establishments including a pub company with 15 pubs throughout the Midlands, Surrey and Hertfordshire. We strive to ensure every burger that goes out has the ‘wow factor’ for our customers.”
