Sourcing (General) and Traceability

Aubrey Allen meat comes from the UK predominantly: the beef from the north east of Scotland and the West Country; the lamb from Cornwall and Devon; the pork from Suffolk and Lincolnshire; the poultry from Worcestershire.

Provenance may be a buzz word to some but it has been our company philosophy for 75 years. In the 1980’s we started taking chefs to the farms to see the livestock and understand directly how they are cared for.

Aubrey Allen select only the finest grade of meat from EEC approved abattoirs. We have partnerships with farmers and abattoir operators who have been supplying us for many years and know our stringent specifications to ensure that all products meet the Aubrey Allen Assured status. We can see from each carcass exactly which farm the meat has come from; our philosophy is to source only the best ingredient.

We are accredited by all the leading government bodies on quality standards, such as EBLEX and BPEX. In 1992 we started our own ‘Aubrey Allen Assurance’ scheme that we still implement at our cutting plant; only when the meat has completed our rigorous standards for health, hygiene, butchery and eating quality does it get the Aubrey Allen Assurance.

Fair Play With Farmers and Animal Welfare

Animal welfare has long been a priority for us and we are delighted that our commitment was recognised in 2008 when we won ‘National Meat Buyer of the Year 2008’ for ethical sourcing.

We have had relationships with some of our suppliers for over 20 years – that relationship would not last unless it was equal.  What this means to you is that the suppliers reserve the top 5% of yield for us and so for your customers.

Our pork suppliers are approved by the RSPCA freedom food accredited scheme and our chicken supplier goes beyond even those requirements. The link between well cared-for animals and great tasting products has long been extolled; it is interesting that both our free range chicken and our pork won us National Pork and Poultry Supplier Of The Year at the Pig and Poultry Awards 2008 where the taste of the product was paramount.
